At the moment Soldat is the most popular online game around and it's easy to see why. It's a great death match game with amazing attention to detail and great graphics.
Soldat is simply packed with features it boasts 6 game modes including Deathmatch, Pointmatch, Teammatch, Rambomatch, Capture the Flag and Infiltration. The 26 built in maps and level editor will make sure that you never get bored of your killing field. An arsenal of 18 weapons, ranging from handguns to miniguns really does add to Soldat's seemingly infinite playability.
Even though Soldat does have some really smart bots, network play is very important. Battlefields can be set over Internet or LAN.

The game is really well made. The graphics are 2d but the animations are very well done. There are ragdoll physics, deformable characters, bullet physics and all kinds of extras. There are so many details in the game. For example dog tags swing realisticaly from your character, when you crouch behind a box, your character lifts his gun so that he can shoot whilst in cover and you can roll! Even cartidges from guns fall out and magazines from the guns drop when you reload. It's just so realistic yet simple! And guess what - it's moddable. On the website there are links to mod pages so you can get nicer skins etc.
All in only 10mb. Amazing. Hope a newer version will come out.
As soon as this game starts, it wont let up for a second. Sporting amazing graphics, seamless multiplayer, a wonderful control scheme, and weapons to die for, this is one of the greatest freeware masterpieces ever created.
OH, and did I mention the slo-mo effects? Thats right, you get insanely satisfying slo-motion kills DURING multiplayer matches.
Watching a perfectly timed grenade blow a guy backwards in slow motion is one of the best moments in online gaming. There's really nothing bad about this game.
To put it in perspective, I had more fun with this game, than Unreal Tournament 2004, a full fledged, expensive, commercial title.

Soldat is a little 2D shooter packed with action. There are 6 different gametypes to choose from. There are 9 main weapons and 4 secondary weapons (including a chainsaw). There is loads of customizable options for your player and to top it all of there is online multiplayer.
Now, playing with bots is all good but your Soldat experience doesn't start until you play online. Tons of people play online so you are probably guaranteed a good match every time you go on.

The main thing that blew me away about this game was the sound-effects. You're controlling a 2-D character, yet your ears ring whenever a grenade explodes near you! Not only that but all of the guns sound very realistic.
I highly recommend this game, not just because of the sound effects but because of how extremely addictive it is. If you were EVER to get bored with the Player Vs. Computer style (don't know how that's possible), that can be accomodated for with the online gaming capability. The only drawback is that you have to pay $10 to do so but it's only one payment.
You should definitely download this game.
It's just amazing thats it, thats all, nothing more, nothing less.
You could spend hours, trying all the maps in one mode, then spend hours in the other modes, changing difficulty, the option to choose your weapon when you die just makes it even better. The option to continue to change your style amd stragedy, is amazing. When you are finally bored of the unregistered version, the option to have a registered version, is just awesome. With new options, and far more fun.
Download it or dont download anything. Its hard to imagine a better game, for this size.

This is pretty much the most addicting game I have ever played. It has tons of stages and different modes. All of the many weapons have their strengths and weaknesses, so you won't be choosing the same weapon every time. On top of that, you can carry a secondary weapon, including a chainsaw! The computer players are also usually intelligent for being computer players. One of the best games I have ever played.
After looking for a decent freeware multiplayer game for the office for a little while now, I can honestly say that SOLDAT is the game I've been searching for.
The weapons are great fun, the sound effects are meaty and realistic, the default levels range from tightly focussed 1-on-1 arenas to sprawling 6+ player maps, and the frentic combat is brilliant. SOLDAT is, in a word, awesome!
I think this game deserves one of history's greatest ratings. This game could define what a 2d action shooter is. It has excellent graphics, awesome gameplay, and even better... online play. I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone and no matter what kind of gamer you are, try this one and you'll love it. It is the Pac-man or Pong, of this generation ...the best.
