This remake is less of a remake than a makeover. The classic arcade game Asteroids has been transplanted to a horizontal plane and has been given three dimensions. Also, the asteroids seem to be giant rubber-band balls.

Either way, the object is the same in this version as every other version. Your Ed Wood style space ship is floating around in the black void of space and there are asteroids floating around you. Shooting them only makes them smaller and multiply. To get rid of them completely, just keep shooting until the smallest of the small is completely gone.

It’s a hard slog, as usual, but its made especially difficult by the fact that you can’t see what’s coming from behind you. No warnings sound as a giant, fast moving asteroid approaches from some direction to blindside you.

That aside, the game is about as enjoyable as the original and could be considered an equal if only there was some warning guide for sneak attacks. On the whole, its quite nice, if simplistic, and could be considered a brief distraction at best.
